FCK-Editor is a powerfull javascript WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor and has an online users manual which gives a brief description of each icon and it’s intended use. Again there are only a few functions you need to know about with the remainder being rarely used. Below are the most important…

NB: If you hold your mouse pointer over an icon then a hint will popup telling you the function of that icon.

First row of icons....

Source : View the HTML source code of page (advanced users)

Templates : Select a standard template for page.

Cut : Cut selected text

Copy : Copy selected text

Paste : Paste formatted or plain text

Paste Word : Paste formatted text copied from MS Word

Print : Prints content

Spell check : Checks spelling of selected text

Undo redo : Undo or redo last action

Search : search for text on page

Replace : Search and replace text on page

Select all : Selects everything on page

Unformat : Remove the formatting from highlighted text.

Text : Bold italic underscore or strikethrough highlighted text.

Text : Superscript or subscript the highlighted text.

Lists :Add numbering or bullets to highlighted text lines.

Indent :Increase or decrease the highlighted text's indentation.

Align :Align highlighted text (left, centered, right, justified).

Hyperlink : Add or remove hyperlink from highlighted text.

Bookmark : Make the highlighted text a bookmark within the page (you can then hyperlink to it in order to help users quickly navigate to specific parts of long pages).

Image : Upload or insert your own or other's images into page.

Table : Insert table into page. Line

Line :Insert divider line (horizontal rule).

Emoticons : Insert emoticons (e.g. smiley faces, email icon, lightbulb).

: Styles & Formatting of selected/highlighted text

Text color :Change the color of the highlighted text.

Background :Change the background color behind the highlighted text.

Image icon. You will be prompted to specify image URL (for images on a remote server) or you can click [Browse server] button to view all images available from uploading. Select the image or thumbnail you want and you will see a preview in the Image screen along with Image height and width in pixels. Now you need to Specify how the image is inserted into the text.

You can adjust either the width or height and as long as lock ratio is set (you should see a small blue padlock) the other dimension is automatically adjusted to maintain the image proportions.

The [border] option is the number of pixels wide you want the border to be. Leave blank or put ‘0’ for no border.

[Hspace] and [Vspace] specify in pixels the Horizontal and Vertical spacing between image and surrounding text.

Select the [Align] option to specify where image appears within the local HTML element (ie with the page or a table cell). You can view the effect of the alignment in the preview window.
