You rarely need an image much larger than 600 pixels wide for a computer screen. This already brings a huge saving. In addition JPEG image files can often have their "quality" level dropped from 100% to 70% with almost no discernable loss in visual quality. So if you take a 1.5Mb (MegaByte) jpeg image from your camera and create a 600pixel wide image at 70% quality, you will be left with at most a 50Kb (KiloByte) image. That represents a 96% saving in diskspace,bandwidth, and download time.

Whether you upload images through your Content Management System (CMS) or directly via FTP it pays to use images that have been manipulated/reduced. However most freely available tools like MSpaint can only manipulate one image at a time and are very click intensive. That is why Seriti Software has made it's image manipulation program available.
